Apollo Aviation Group, a multi-strategy aviation investment manager specializing in mid-life aircraft leasing, hired Hypergiant Space Age Solutions in 2018 to reimagine the foundational software that supports their business and introduce comprehensive machine intelligence across their organization.
Apollo needed a CRM, but suspected (correctly) that paying for a one-size-fits-all solution from a major platform provider such as Salesforce would require them to pay for an abundance of functionality that is not needed while leaving gaps in necessary areas. Moreover, Apollo had a significant need for an asset management system that was tailored to their needs and the niche market within which they operate.
The system had to support Apollo’s dynamic and opportunistic approach to aircraft investing that includes acquisition, refurbishment, marketing and leasing commercial aircraft, engines and other assets, resale, and management.
The application of artificial intelligence horizontally across the organization through enablement of a foundational tool for their business represents a dramatic evolution of Apollo’s way of doing business. Moving fleet management capabilities to a more contemporary tech stack allows for application of AI. In this realm, AI – via regression and business rules – can also detect fleet anomalies and enhance fleet maintenance forecasting allowing for increased efficiency, improvement of data quality, and decrease time spent manually reviewing data.
The solution was AEMS: the Aircraft Enterprise Management System. For a company that has grown to manage nearly $1.3B, more than 120 aircraft, and 100 aircraft engines, flexibility and scalability was key. So, the new 3.0 version had to incorporate future-forward technology and reflect contemporary best-practices. It provides enhanced worker access through multi-platform development and supports low-bandwidth connections for those working remotely. Faster, easier updating was also important as was rigorous data governance which was developed with data quality, validation, and responsibility in mind, underpinned by a holistic cleansing of existing, legacy documents. It provides a more robust and cost effective future through AI enhancements and Machine Learning capabilities that position Apollo as an industry leader with AEMS serving as a true competitive advantage. The custom built software allows Apollo to manage complex relationships, focuses on enhanced visibility and accountability across the organization, allows expert asset management and significantly reduces redundant tasks whilst improving critical workflows.
What began as a tool to merely manage material consignments evolved into a fully-fledged Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) that is vital for daily operations, decision-making, and fleet management.
Thanks to the Apollo Aviation Group and Hypergiant, mid-life just got a lot more interesting.
“Technological change is never an isolated phenomenon. This revolution takes place inside a complex ecosystem which comprises business, governmental and societal dimensions. To make a country fit for the new type of innovation-driven competition, the whole ecosystem has to be considered.”
