What is Machine Learning - Hypergiant

What is Machine Learning?

Machine Learning, a subfield of AI, uses algorithms and big data to guide technology in such a way that the technology discovers--on its own how to learn from the data and make decisions based on what it learns.

Our intentions for Machine Learning should focus on improving humans' quality of life with more intelligent technology rather than on improving AI's ability to simulate human traits.

Machine Learning is a toolset that relies on big data to enable technology to make decisions and predictions that enrich human life.
  • Big Data

Modern industry produces billions of data. This big data informs Machine Learning to help technology identify enhanced analytical methods, historical correlations, and more precise predictions.

  • Algorithms

Rather than rely on a list of restrictive “human” rules, modern AI uses processes and calculations that teach technology to analyze the data, learn from it, and make decisions based on what it learns.

  • Learning Techniques

Unsupervised— finds order/patterns in unknown data sets Supervised— predicts/answers from a known data set Reinforcement— strategizes based on rewards and penalties or trial and error
